I’ve been asked by many of you about how I planned my wedding right from the outfits and jewelry to the photography.
Believe me girls, it’s never that easy and requires a lot more hard work than we imagine.
Firstly, you don’t know where to start from, which outlets to shop from?
Should you follow trends or be creative and get your own customized outfits made?
Secondly, while you’re still figuring this out, another major problem crops up of managing to do all this within the budget which you have decided.
Thirdly, having a friend by your side to help you do all this and tolerate your bridezilla moments is a must!!
Luckily for me, my friends guided me to head over to wedmegood.com, an online wedding portal that has gained fame and lots of love from brides like me in recent times. In just a span of 3 years, WMG has become one of the most popular wedding planning platforms and also launched its own app available on android and IOS. It also has a lovely blog that gives you cool and D.I.Y pre & post wedding ideas.
It also has a wide list of vendors that you can choose from for your venue and décor to your outfits and much more.
So, here’s how I used WMG as a personal guide to end all my wedding woes:
For My Sagan function:
The Sagan ceremony was actually clubbed with my engagement ceremony. As per the North Indian customs, the bride adorns the jewelry brought by the groom’s side. So, I decided to accessorize my lehenga with a complete set of fresh floral jewelry to look simple yet elegant before the groom’s side makes me wear the real jewelry.
So, I headed over to the Vendors section and hopped on to the Wedding Jewelry page. The vendor that I shortlisted was Anoo Flower Jewelry. It’s a 5-star rated vendor and also happens to be the same vendor that Mira Rajput (Yes, Shahid Kapoor’ wife) chose for her mehndi ceremony.
Since, I was wearing an Orange lehenga (that I bought from Shahpur Jat), I went for flowers in a contrasting yellow color. Their service ensured time on-time delivery and the freshness of flowers which was guaranteed over the phone call. They are basically a Chennai based vendor though they do have a branch in Gurgaon as well. However, they do not have a regular store outlet that you can visit, so the designs were showed to me on WhatsApp. I took a leap of faith and chose the design. The floral jewelry got made in Chennai and was delivered to me on the day of my engagement. What was really surprising was that the flowers remained fresh throughout the ceremony until the next day. This vendor really stands out from the rest as the flowers are not what you’ll get here in Delhi and are especially couriered from Chennai.
For my Mehendi:
The mehndi night is supposed to be the most fun out of all the functions for the girl’s side and so was I pretty excited for it! Hence, the mehndi décor should also be such that gives out the fun vibes! Using D.I.Y Décor ideas from WMG, my family created a GendaPhoolJhoola for me that looked really pretty!
For booking my henna artist, I headed over to the Wedding artist section and chose Ravi Mehandi artist as it was a tried and tested one by my sister-in-law and also close to our home.
This guy is based in Lajpat Nagar and has beautiful designer mehndi designs. However, I chose to go for a traditional design. This cost me Rs.11, 000.
Now coming to how I accessorized for the mehndi look, it had to be a trendy floral Jewellery set again. Since, I had already tried Anoo Flower Jewellery and was more than happy with my experience, I decided to book them again for my mehndi night. I wanted a very girly look for the function, so I went for a pinkish vibe in my outfit and floral jewelry as well. I chose a completely different design this time so as to not look the same as the Sagan function.I went for a vibrant shade of Pink roses and RajniGandha this time.
For my Wedding:
Choosing your wedding lehenga is a super time consuming process and is probably the longest tasks of all. It has to be something that defines your personality and makes you look like a million bucks (without burning a hole in your pocket, of course!)
Before I headed out in search of my million dollar outfit, I checked out which are the best places in Delhi to buy your wedding lehenga from. I narrowed it down to Chandni Chowk, Rajouri Garden & South Ex. Then I made a list of the go-to shops in these areas. You can see a similar list here – https://www.wedmegood.com/blog/where-to-buy-bridal-lehengas-in-chandni-chowk-with-pics/
Has it ever happened to you when you have something in mind and when you spot it, you just instantly grab it? The same was the case with my lehenga. I had always imagined something unique for myself yet traditional. I wanted to stay away from red, yet have red as well. And I wanted something contemporary. Hence, with this vision I started out in search of the perfect lehenga for myself. You know when you start listing down your options of where to shop from, you actually do have kind of favourites amongst them already.
And my favourite was Asiana Couture of which I had only heard good stuff from friends and the internet. This is one place in Chandni Chowk where you get designer lehengas and authentic Sabyasachi pieces and one cannot go here without an appointment. So, I started my search with my favorite vendor (already!) and booked an appointment with them. Their range of wedding lehengas start from Rs.60, 000 and well goes up to infinity! After spending 3-4 hours here (yes, that’s how long it can take!) and browsing through the variety of designs they had to offer, I found the one for me-my dream lehenga! Carrot Red with Navy Blue hues, it was a perfect mix of contemporary & traditional, just what I wanted. It also had a Double Dupatta of Golden Color. The lehenga was not at all blingy and I completely fell in love with it, that I didn’t feel the need to visit any other shop!Plus, I plan to re-use my lehenga post marriage and post 1stKarvaChauth as well so it had to be something beautiful yet subtle, which can be worn again at several occasions. Style on point!
All WMG fans, get a 5% discount at Asiana Couture if you mention the same. The cost of my lehenga was Rs.80, 000 which after a 5% WMG Discount came down to Rs.76, 000.
